Biographical/Historical Note

The United States Office of Price Administration produced a series of war ration books beginning in 1942 for rationed items such as rubber, gasoline, and sugar. War ration book no. 3 was distributed May 20, 1943 and valid September 1943. War ration book no. 4 was distributed later in 1943.

At the time the ration books in this collection were distributed, Ruby Robinson, Adelard St. Dennis, and Margaret St. Dennis lived in Bridgewater with Albert G. Robinson. The 1943 Street List records Ruby’s occupation as nurse, Margaret’s occupation as at home, Adelard’s occupation as a correction officer, and Albert’s as US Navy.
