Adult Program in September

We the people

On Wed., September 19 at 7pm, Professor Gary L. Hylander, a member of the Stonehill faculty, will present a lecture entitled:  We the People: the Constitution.

America's Constitution is the oldest surviving written constitution in the world.  We explore the work of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention and the reasons why such a document written over two centuries ago by representatives from thirteen struggling seaboard states continues to give strength and liberty to a vast continental nation of 300 million people.

Professor Hylander earned his Ph.D. at Boston College.  He is a professor of American History at Stonehill College where he specializes as a Presidential Historian.  He is a frequent presenter at library forums, historical societies, senior living centers and civic and professional organizations.

"We the People" is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library.  It will be  held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room, which is accessible by elevator.  Parking is available in back of the library.

Important Information
for our library patrons

hand holding book

The library budget is in danger of being cut by 53.4 %, from $812,000 to $378,000.  Without adequate funding we are anticipating the following changes in our day-to-day operations:

*Library hours will be cut back to somewhere between 6 and 8 hours weekly

*Bridgewater library patrons will be denied borrowing privileges at area libraries

*Bridgewater library patrons will not be able to place holds on materials through the SAILS network

*Children’s and Adult programs will be cancelled

*Meeting rooms will be unavailable for use

*No new books or audio-visual materials will be ordered

*Periodical subscriptions will not be renewed as they run out

*The library will be decertified by the Commonwealth of MA, resulting in loss of State Aid.

These changes will be adopted shortly after September 8.
