Upcoming Adult Program The Secret
World of the
On.Wed., May 16, our special guest is Justin Locke, who spent 18 seasons as a freelance double bass player in Boston. He played with the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as in pit orchestras for operas, ballets, and Broadway shows. Mr. Locke is a "score reader" for television broadcasts of the Boston Pops. He manages the Bose Philharmonic, and he is the author of several programs for family orchestra concerts, which have been presented in Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Brazil and Australia. He also writes a weekly critique of Dancing with the Stars on the Bostonchannel.com website, which is also nationally syndicated on ABC affiliates' websites across the country. Mr. Locke is the author of Real Men Don't Rehearse, a humorous inside look into the usually secret world of professional orchestras. He has appeared on WCVB's Chrnonicle, WGBH's Greater Boston with Emily Rooney, and on the Paul Sullivan Show on CBS Radio. He regularly appears as a guest speaker, discussing the leadership secrets of the great conductors. In his appearance at the library, he will share stories from his book. This will be as good as a trip to a downtown comedy club, and it's free. The Friends of the Library are funding this program, which begins at 7:00 p.m. Parking is available back of the library.
Annual Friends of the
Library
The officers of the Friends of the Library are beginning their July 2007-June 2008 annual membership drive. We would first like to thank all of our new Friends and those who have generously supported the 2006-2007 membership drive. The primary goal of the FOL is to enhance public library services to you. Although our book sales and photocopier proceeds generate income, your donations are the major source of funding. Your generosity enables the FOL to purchase museum passes, pay for children's and adult programs, purchase craft materials for storyhour programs, donate book prizes for the summer reading program, and purchase CD's, DVD's, videos and books on tape. We hope you will continue to support the FOL and request that you complete the annual renewal form included in this month's newsletter. Your renewal will be effective from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. You may leave your donation at thr library or simply mail it to the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library, 15 South St., Bridgewater, MA 02324. Questions may be directed to Andrea Dubay, Membership Chair, at 508-697-8633.

Interested
in a knitting group? The Friends of the Library are wondering if there are any knitters in the community who would like to get together at the library on a regular basis to knit and chat. If you might be interested in joining a knitting group, or scrapbooking group, or participating in another type of crafts group, please call Mary O'Connell at the library. Your name will be passed along to the Friends of the Library who will coordinate this program.
Cartridge Program Continues
The Friends continue to collect inkjet cartridges which are recycled and bring in extra money for the FOL treasury. Please bring your used cartridges (but NOT Epson) to the library's Reference Desk. This has been a great fundraiser for the Friends.
