Beyond
Spitballs..... The current school years has brought with it many problems. After school, the library is often overrun with unruly young teens. They exchange obscenities, and have thrown footballs, and other objects in the adult reading area, trashed the bathrooms, scattered paper missiles throughout the library and stairwells, stolen directional signs, painted initials on the furniture, and continue to irritate other patrons who are attempting to read or work quietly. Their behavior requires constant attention from the staff, which distracts us from our regular duties. As a consequence, our trustees have asked the Bridgewater Police Department to carry out after-school patrols in the library in order to help reduce vandalism and to remind students that their behavior is of serious consequence. The library reserves the right to suspend repeat offenders from using the library or loitering on library property.
Waiver received
It is with a great sense of relief that we report that the Bridgewater Public Library has once again received a waiver from the Commonwealth, allowing us to receive state aid and maintain our certification for one more year. Should we lose certification, our residents will only be able to borrow books owned by our library. Area libraries may refuse to lend materials to Bridgewater cardholders.
