Adult Program in January
Travelogue:
Panama Canal and Mexico

Local photographer Jack Alexander will present a slide/lecture
on Wed. Jan. 17th at 7:00 p.m. He will focus on Mexico and the Panama
Canal.
Join us in a first class tour via Princess Cruises to the Panama
Canal and see just how they handle the big Panmax ships through the locks with
six locomotives pulling and guiding them.
This program will cover the process both before and after the
USA gave up control.
We will also "visit" Grand Cayman, Cartagena,
Colombia, and the west coast Mexican ports of Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta,
Marzatlan and Cabo San Lucas to view this interesting land to our south.
Mr. Alexander has spoken at the library on many previous
occasions and we are happy to invite him back.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bridgewater
Public Library.
Parking is available in back of the library.

Essay
Contest Announced in Partnership with
the One Book One Community Program
The Library is sponsoring an essay
contest, which is open to any resident of Bridgewater, including students and
staff at Bridgewater State College. The contest will run from January
through mid-March of 2007.
Those who enter the contest will be asked
to address the following question: Do you own your own life? -- or does
society?
It is suggested that contestants read My
Sister's Keeper before writing and submitting their essay.
More information about the contest will be
available in early January -- at the library and on the library's web site.
Prizes have been donated by Dunkin'
Donuts, Castaway's, Cape Cod Cafe, Bridgewater Bagel, My Sister & I, and
Brianna's Breakfast.

In the Gallery ...
Kathy Noyes will exhibit her multimedia show, including
watercolor, acrylic, stained glass, pastels and fiber art from Jan. 10 through
Feb. 8
Coming Soon: Coastal Quilt Artists!
Also, the AAUW (American Association of University Women) has a
display in the glass case through January -- commemorating their 125th
anniversary.

Announcing
New Holds Feature in IBistro

Going on vacation? If you'd like to
suspend your reserves while you are on vacation, studying for the Bar Exam, or
otherwise unavailable, IBistro now offers you that option.
Under "My Account" you can now
enter a "Suspension Start Date" and a "Suspension End
Date". This will prevent you from losing your holds while you are out
of town.

The Friends are

The Friends are gearing up for their next book sale.
If you've got gently used books to give away, we would be happy to accept them
for our upcoming book sale.
Textbooks and books which have been stored in a damp
location cannot be accepted. (If they smell of mildew, throw them out!)
Thanks for your continued generosity.
