The presentation melds historical fact together with legend and myth to produce a fascinating new look at events that really happened and the stories of haunting that followed them. The topics addressed in the lecture will be Mercy Brown, “The Vampire of Exeter, Rhode Island”; the Cursed Freetown State Forest; the Haunted Hoosac Tunnel in western Massachusetts; the ghosts of the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River; the Ghosts of King Philip’s War: Nine Men’s Misery; the Mount Washington Hotel in New Hampshire; Giles Corey and the Curse of Salem; Burial Hill in Plymouth; and the John Alden House in Duxbury.

Christopher Daley is a history teacher, historian and lecturer. He has been lecturing on various historical topics at historical societies, museums, public libraries and resorts all over New England for nearly 20 years.

This program is free to the public. It is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library and will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room, which is accessible by elevator. Parking is available in back of the library, located at 15 South Street, Bridgewater.

“There comes a time, before another generation is lost, when you realize how important it is to document your family history.  Each family needs that special person to step up and become the keeper of their heritage.  These precious memories are just as important as the family heirloom everyone covets.  They are what gives us our identity and binds us together.”

Kathryn Smith Lockhard is a former financial controller.  She has spoken to large academic groups on career education and assisted in writing a manual for the New Hampshire State Department of Education based on statewide surveys she conducted.

She is the author of Forever Laced, A Journey through Two Centuries, a biography/memoir of her maternal Roesch family who came to America in 1857.  Being a direct descendant of the Roesch and Houston families, she has given a presentation to members of the Brevard County Historical Society in Cocoa, Florida.  She also writes articles for the Southern Genealogist Exchange Society.

“We become who we are because of those that came before and the choices made.  It is the results of those decisions that lace one generation to the next,” writes Lockhard in the epigraph in her book.  “I call myself the accidental author.  I didn’t set out to write a book, but my love genealogy led me there.”

Lockhard was born in Florida where her maternal ancestors are from, but was raised in Massachusetts.  “My paternal ancestors came to Massachusetts in 1620 and I am still here.  My roots certainly run deep and seem to hold me here and now I am a member of the Mayflower Society.”

So join her for an evening of informative interactive fun so you too can “Find Your Rainbows and Flowers and Dark Clouds and Weeds.”
