2007
Upcoming programs Quiet places
in Massachusetts
Wed., Feb. 21
@ 7:00 p.m. From Cape Cod to the Berkshires, Michael takes you to lesser known natural and historic places. The program includes conservation/environmental issues. Michael has spoken at the library on numerous occasions. He is the author of 15 books and can be visited on the web at www.michaeltougias.com/. This free program is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library. It will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room on the lower level.
The
New DNA:
Thurs., Mar. 1 @ 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Carson will address the ethical issues which have been evolving concerning the science of genetics. He is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and teaches at Bridgewater State College. This lecture is offered in partnership with Bridgewater's One Book One Community program, which is jointly sponsored by the Bridgewater Public Library, Bridgewater State College, B-R Regional High School, the Senior Center of Bridgewater, the College and Community Relations Council and the Bridgewater Business Community. This year's selected title is Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper, which focuses on the plight of one family faced with difficult choices involving their younger daughter, Anna, who was conceived as a bone marrow match for her older sister, Kate. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Come and hear Dr. Carson's lecture----and then decide for yourself. This will be held in the Flora T. Little Meeting Room.
Good-Bye
It is with much sadness that we bid farewell to one of our beloved library trustees, Dr. Carl B. Tisch, who died on January 3rd. Dr. Tisch was a trustee from February 5, 2002 through January 3, 2007, serving on the Board's Policy and Planning Committee and Building Committee. He was a dedicated volunteer who worked tirelessly for the benefit of the library, and he always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.

Re: Your Reserved Books Many of our patrons like to "reserve" best-sellers and other popular titles. We would remind you to pick up your reserves in a timely manner when you are notified. Our network has begun canceling holds automatically, leaving us without the option of extending the time an item sits on our "holds shelf" awaiting pickup. Don't lose out on your reserves. And if you'd like to be notified via e-mail, please let us know.
In the Gallery ...
The Coastal Quilt Artists will be exhibiting their quilts from Feb. 12 through Mar. 16. The gallery is open during regular library hours.
